On June 6th, Ms. Kikuchi, an agriculture stakeholder at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, came to Kofu First High School to speak to us about the current state of agriculture in Japan. First, we learned about present problems affecting Japanese agriculture, such as the declining rate of new workers and the low food self-sufficiency rate (FSR). Using graphs and figures, we learned how to think about agricultural law and land ownership in order to solve these problems. After the presentation, we asked Ms. Kikuchi questions to gain specialized knowledge about Yamanashi’s agriculture. We were also able to receive Ms. Kikuchi’s informed opinions on expanding overseas and organic farming. Through this experience, we gained a deeper knowledge about how to solve the issues facing Japanese agriculture.

農林水産省基調講演会では、農林水産省の菊池さんから農業についてより知識や理解を深めるために実際の農業の関係者という視点から様々なことを教えていただきました。初めに、現在の農業の就農率や食料自給力(FSR)といった課題やその課題を解決するための法律や土地に対する考え方などを資料やグラフを使って丁寧に説明していただきました。その後自分たちの農探究についてより専門的な知識を得るためにたくさんの質問をしました。海外への展開や有機農業について現実的な視点での意見をいただくことができました。
